JCoSS Parliament - helping to build our school

As a brand new school, JCoSS enjoys taking a new and fresh approach.  This is why the traditional school council system has been replaced by the JCoSS Student Parliament, modelled on the British Parliamentary system and praised by ex-Education Minister Ed Balls when he visited the school.

Not only is this a unique idea for a school, it really helps us to understand the real Westminster structure.

Each year, the school body votes for the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister who then chose the members of their Cabinet, to head the other departments such as Education, Sport and Health.  The departments then grow after a Careers Fair market the roles available.

Since we were created, our fabulous Student Parliament has achieved many wonderful things: We have expanded our skills to the point where we can run a formal Cabinet meeting without any adult supervision. All departments have achieved something: Our Culture and Media department have chosen their 3 charities; the department of Education have made learning more interactive by observing lessons and giving feedback to teachers on how they think the lesson could be more interactive and all departments worked to create a fantastic Sports Day.  This year, our hard working parliament have got many more fantastic projects happening, so JCoSS students have a lot more to be excited about.
