JCoSS and the community
אל תפרוש מן הצבור
Do not separate yourself from the community -
Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) 2:4
The JCoSS community extends beyond the school gates. Through our commitment to Social Action we are able to engage JCoSS students in exciting and beneficial community projects. Students have signed up to the Yoni Jesner Volunteering Award, and over the coming year will spend 20hrs volunteering. Opportunities within the Jewish Community will include projects such as food distribution pack-a-thons with Gift and World Jewish Relief, support for the elderly through be-friending schemes with Jewish Care as well as fundraising activities for many of our communities' vital charities.
There will also be a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer outside of the Jewish community including local environment projects, peer support with local primary schools, and our regular food making project for Homeless Action in Barnet.
In addition to this, our Student Council members will help to manage important aspects of local community life including the School Travel Plan.
If you have any suggestions for community projects that our students could engage in then please contact our Social Action Coordinator Victoria Rose at vrose@jcoss.barnet.sch.uk
We are keen to build and maintain positive relations with our immediate neighbours. We have a Residents' Liaison Group comprising local residents, senior members of staff, trustees and governors of the school, and local councillors (one of whom convenes and chairs meetings). This group meets periodically to discuss matters of mutual concern and is a focus for our communication with, and involvement of, all those who live in the streets nearest to the school.
